Kenya has launched a new tourism campaign inviting the African diaspora to come home and explore the beauty, wildlife, culture, and adventure the nation has to offer.
But African parents heard that message and translated it very differently:
“Come home… and BRING GIFTS!”
- In today’s 90-second Ted Makambo comedy clip, we break down the true diaspora experience:
- Packing 47kg of gifts for relatives
- Bringing sneakers, phones, wigs, laptops — and sometimes even GOATS
- Parents turning “tourism” into “Amazon delivery service”
- The customs officer who knows your luggage is 90% gifts you’ll never use
- The diaspora’s struggle between safari dreams… and family shopping lists
If you’ve ever traveled home and carried gifts for 17 cousins, 3 aunties, and one uncle you’ve never met — THIS is your skit.
COMMENT OF THE DAY:
What’s the STRANGEST gift your family ever asked you to bring back home?
